Acts of Kindness

Writer's picture: Liz SterlingLiz Sterling

This was a very difficult week. I midwifed one of my very best friends out of this earthly plane and ushered her home to her resting place. Lynn was brave, courageous and of clear mind. She was ready to go. Her enlightened family supported all her decisions and were in prayerful ceremony when she departed.

What touched me so deeply was the outpouring of support from my friends. Simple acts of kindness… an offer to take a hospice break and come by for a bowl of soup to nourish my heart, soul and belly. Another friend, who lives near Hospice-By-The Sea, opened her home to me for respite throughout the week.

Texts and phone calls were abundant; filled with quotes and spiritual passages that sustained me throughout her sweet departure.

Her children welcomed me deeply into their hearts as twenty-eight years of friendship culminated in laughter and tears as we reminisced and make a gazillion plans for her support and care.

You’d be surprised how a simple act of kindness can be a grand gesture when delivered with a pure intention to lift someone’s spirit. I undulated in gratitude for the care I received…. it brought me to the deep awareness that kindness matters so much and each small gesture and reassuring smile lives on and on and on….

My dear Lynn, you chose a great date to depart: 1.11.2020. The stars aligned for you, as you wished, while you made a beautiful transition.

You were an angel on earth to so many and a wonderful teacher, friend and guide! Thank you for all the loving kindness we shared for almost three decades. You are forever in my heart and may the blessings be.
