One Minute Late
Updated: Apr 7, 2019
Fear makes me freeze. It constricts my mind, body and rational thinking. It is gripping and limiting.
Fear can cause blood pressure to rise, the pulse to beat too rapidly and tension to tear through the cells. No one is a happy camper when that happens.
I saw it rise up last night. While maneuvering through traffic to meet a group of friends —FEAR appeared.
A slew of thoughts ensued. “What if I miss them, what if they leave without me?” The pressure was mounting — mentally I was melting down.
We were a dozen out-of-town visitors to Austin, Texas and gathering at a hotel to catch a few Ubers to a sunset dinner at County Line Bar-B-Q, about 20 minutes away. I wanted to travel with the group. I wanted to be on time. I wanted a lot of things and not everything was going my way, so I freaked out a little and learned a lot.
Here’s the epiphany: I am the Master of Myself —if awareness is activated.
The moment I glimpsed what was happening in my mind, I said, No More. Stop It!
And it worked. I learned that last week in the Women’s Wisdom Circle.
And then I applied another tool that’s been added to the cache of newfound methods for self awareness and discovery. The Pause!
I paused for just a second to get core connected. It was a Pivotal Pause, both centering and liberating.
Oh, and I arrived only ONE minute late. It was worth the struggle —because that was a really a good lesson to learn.
