Tug of War

I had an epiphany during a water aerobics class. While working with the weights, the teacher demonstrated poolside to hold them together then pull them apart.

“Tug of war,” she said. “Together, apart - use the water as resistance and bring the weights apart just like you would at tug of war.”Then she said, “side by side, bring your arms down by your side and move them forward and backward, side by side. “Tug of war, side by side.

That’s when I heard what I heard……

OMG, I woke out of the cycle of repetition…and realized…I live that tug of war in my mind — struggling with uninvited thoughts that monopolize my well-being.

There’s a battle inside all of our minds that usurps and dominates and sometimes even tears apart those we care about, thereby diminishing our feelings of connection and appreciation.

Whoa Nelly! Here’s the epiphany… We can take control of those tug-of-war thoughts that separate us (especially from people who push our buttons) and adopt a side by side attitude with ourselves and loved ones.

We all know by now, when you change your thoughts you change your life.

Think about it, if you’re struggling in a relationship because your thoughts are of a tug of war nature…. the sooner you stand side by side, the sooner you will see your life change; inside and out.

Freedom abounds when you let go of the rope and surrender the battle.

And who wants to play tug of war anyway?
