Makin’ Music and Feeling Joy

Updated: May 23, 2021

Music can do a lot of things. It can lift our spirits, make us dance, sing, tap our feet, feel connected to our past, cry, show solidarity, represent a nation and I believe, music can touch the soul.

I’m postulating that music is an integral part of all of our lives in a multitude of different ways. I’m pretty sure you’ll agree.

It’s almost Memorial Day Weekend and then comes June, June, June, and for those who love musicals, I bet you’re ready to burst out with………

June is bustin' out all over

All over the meadow and the hill!

Buds're bustin' outa bushes

And the rompin' river pushes

Ev'ry little wheel that wheels beside the mill!

Just because it's June, June, June!

Richard Rogers wrote that hit song for Rogers and Hammerstein’s, Carousel, which was originally produced in 1945, just as WWII was ending. Here it is 75 years later and we’ve all been though another great war — the one against coronavirus. We're waging war in other areas too: the heated Middle East conflict, discrimination, gun violence. Each one of us meets this in their own way -- yet now we are seeing, it's a new day.

Eight states have reached 70% vaccine protection, more on the way. Mandates are being lifted and I'm flying up to Burlington, Vermont, then to a family reunion in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There really is music rising within me as I re-enter and re-engage with the world.

Can you feel something rising within you? Is is Excitement? Anticipation? Anger?

Maybe there's a new beat rising within you? Check in to feel that too!

One things for sure, as Sonny and Cher sang in this catchy song……

The beat goes on, the beat goes on

Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain

La de da de de, la de da de da

And the beat goes on, yes, the beat goes on…

Here’s to hearing a new beat and creating a new groove as we round the corner on coronavirus. Hopefully, we can extinguish hatred by having harmony in our own lives, and then, in our world. Prayers for that, please!

Blessings to all - stay safe and spread joy. Love, Liz
